Why Home Environments Matter During NDIS Reform

NDIS reform is underway, and like many across the sector, we’re watching with optimism and interest as the next phase of the scheme evolves.
The intention behind these reforms is important: creating a more sustainable system, strengthening assessments, improving consistency, and ensuring better long-term outcomes for participants across Australia.
Those are goals many of us strongly support.
At the same time, working directly inside participants’ homes gives us a unique perspective on how important early intervention and practical environmental support can be during times of transition.
One thing we see regularly is how quickly a living environment can change when someone is struggling.
A property can deteriorate in weeks.
But with the right support, it can also be stabilised quickly, restoring safety, dignity, and engagement before larger issues develop.
That’s where collaboration across the sector becomes so important.
At Residence Revival, we don’t replace clinicians, support coordinators, allied health teams, or housing providers.
We work alongside them.
Our role is often to help stabilise home environments, reduce immediate risks, and provide practical on-the-ground observations that can support the wider care team in understanding what’s happening inside the home environment.
Because when a participant’s environment improves:
• Engagement often improves
• Safety improves
• Daily functioning improves
• Confidence improves
• Outcomes improve
We believe the evolving NDIS presents a real opportunity for providers, clinicians, coordinators, housing services, and community organisations to work even more closely together, combining policy, clinical expertise, and practical frontline support to create stronger outcomes for participants.
The reform journey will continue to evolve over time, but one thing remains constant:
The home environment matters.
And when we work together to support people early, positively, and practically, we can help create safer, healthier, and more sustainable outcomes for the people we all serve.
If you’re a support coordinator, allied health professional, housing provider, or community organisation navigating complex environmental situations, we’re always open to collaboration and conversation.
At Residence Revival, we believe better outcomes happen when services work together early, practically, and compassionately.
