With the recent federal election behind us, many in the disability support sector are hopeful for a long-overdue shift in how the NDIS operates—particularly when it comes to high-needs participants living in hoarding, squalor, or unsafe housing.
At Residence Revival, we’ve seen firsthand how delays in cleaning approvals can push vulnerable people to the edge—triggering evictions, hospital admissions, or worse.
The Hidden Cost of Delayed Support
Let’s be honest. Deep cleaning services are often misunderstood or deprioritised, even when they’re essential. But here’s what we know:
✅ Supporting a participant with a psychosocial disability to remain in their home
✅ Preventing a fall or health incident with a timely clean
✅ Stabilising a tenancy after a behavioural episode
These interventions don’t just preserve dignity. They save lives. And they’re far more cost-effective than emergency healthcare or crisis housing.
17 Participants Waiting. Right Now.
As of this month, we have 17 participants on our internal triage list. Each of them is awaiting urgent approval for deep cleaning and remediation services.
These aren't optional services. They are critical interventions — necessary to prevent complete tenancy breakdowns or health-related crises.
We’re calling on the NDIS to work with providers and professionals on the ground to streamline approvals, particularly through core support flexibility and clearer guidelines for deep cleaning eligibility.
Shoutout to the Real Heroes
Behind every referral we receive is a dedicated professional who makes that support possible:
Support Coordinators advocating relentlessly
Support Workers managing complex daily environments
OTs and Behavioural Specialists working to align homes with participant plans
Allied Health Practitioners who flag risk before it turns to crisis
To all of you: thank you. Your work allows our team to step in, clean up, and create safer environments for those who need it most.
Our Commitment Moving Forward
As we look ahead to the second half of the year, Residence Revival is ready to:
Work hand-in-hand with support professionals to fast-track services
Collaborate with plan managers to improve capacity building outcomes
Provide evidence-based reporting to support Change of Circumstance requests
Continue delivering services with compassion, trauma-awareness, and dignity
The Road Ahead
If the new government is listening, we believe there’s a real opportunity here to reform how critical cleaning and remediation services are accessed under the NDIS.
Because when the system works proactively, we all win—especially the participants we’re here to serve.
Let’s keep talking.
If you’re a professional working in the space of behaviour support, allied health, or participant advocacy, we’d love to connect.
Together, we can clean up the system—one home at a time.
